Mechanical/File Specs

The Valley News Dispatch and The Herald is currently accepting ads on the following storage media:

  • 250 MB Zip Disks
  • 100 MB Zip Disks
  • CD-ROMs
  • Floppy Disks

Ads can be accepted from agencies and individuals via:

  • Internet
  • Email
  • AdSend

Currently ads should be set in Multi-Ad Creator or QuarkExpress. We are currently using Creater version 4.0, QuarkExpress verion 3.3 & 4.1. We prefer files to be in PDF format created wtih Acrobat Distiller which embeds all graphics and fonts into the document. Any questions call Sue Cassedy-Beskitt at 724-226-7714.


Fonts

Fonts should include both Macintosh screen and printer fonts.

We CANNOT use TrueType fonts. TrueType do not embed in a PDF file.


All ads should be 100% complete. A current and complete copy of the ad should be supplied with the ad files. Please label your disk with your name and contact information so that we may return your disk to you once the ad is published.

A contact person and phone number should be included with disk.
Someone should be available after hours and on Saturdays if we should have any questions or problems with the ad.


Graphics

  • All graphics must be included on the disk along with all fonts used on the job.
  • Graphic files should be EPS file format at 100% the size they will be used in the document.
  • Avoid enlarging or reducing graphics more than 20%
  • Line art should be at a resolution of 300-600dpi.
  • Color or B/W halftones (gray scale) should be at a resolution of 170, 85lpi.
  • All color will be separated into CMYK process color
  • RGB colors, Pantone colors, Spot colors and Indexed colors CANNOT be used.
